14:30 | Arequipa (Arequipa region), Aug. 17.
Colca Valley —Arequipa region's most visited tourist attraction— received more than 4,000 domestic and foreign tourists as part of the celebrations marking Arequipa city's 477th foundation anniversary.
Located in southern Peru, the area saw a significant increase in
flow of tourists on August 12-14, as stated by Caylloma Province Mayor Romulo Tinta on Thursday.
This is due to the fact that many tourists take the opportunity to visit the valley after spending a few days in the so-called White City.
According to State-run Colca Valley Autonomous Authority (Autocolca), most arrivals were reported on August 12th (about 2,250) and August 13th (over 1,200).
On Monday, August 14th, the number dropped to 650 visitors, since celebratory
activities took place mostly in the city.
Tinta said Autocolca expects over 30,000 holidaymakers by the end of the month. The figure can get up, given the current peak season and Arequipa's
anniversary celebrations.
Colca Valley
Colca Valley is one of the region's top attractions. The area offers numerous tourist services, and besides its natural beauty, visitors come to enjoy the majestic "flight of the condor" —an emblematic Andean bird.
The place is located four hours from Arequipa city, and there is a paved road leading to such natural site.
