Lima clothing emporium: Peruvian Guerrero's No 9 jerseys to sell like hotcakes

08:30 | Lima, Jun. 1.

Lima's largest textile outlet, Gamarra, experiences Paolo Guerrero effect. Now that the top striker is going to the World Cup, jerseys with No. 9 on the back and other Peru captain-inspired products are going to sell like hot cakes, said Susana Saldaña, secretary-general of the entrepreneurs' coordinating body.

The demand for Guerrero's No. 9 jerseys never stopped, despite the difficult time he was going through, she pointed out.

"However, these garments will sell like hotcakes now that his participation in the World Cup has been confirmed," Saldaña told Andina news agency.

The entrepreneurs' representative explained that 50% of Peru-inspired garments manufactured at Gamarra are related to the Inca striker and the rest to Edison Flores and Cristian Cueva (25%), as well as other national players (25%).

Nevertheless, now that Peru's top goal-scorer will be in Russia 2018, 70% of the merchandise will be printed with the player's No. 9, last name or face.

"I think we are going to make a lot of sales. We all place our expectations on Guerrero," she remarked.

Variety of clothes

Gamarra is a place where you can find every kind of clothing with Peruvian motifs, all the more so now that Paolo Guerrero has been cleared to play in Russia.

Among the most popular clothing items are jerseys, scarfs, baby rompers, bibs, baby shoes, jackets, tracksuits, caps, and t-shirts featuring Guerrero's No. 9, face and the national coat of arms.

"Gamarra is celebrating this great news, and so is Peru," Susana Saldaña concluded.
