After being crowned world runner-up in the women's 35km race walk and winning her third medal at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest (Hungary), Peruvian athlete Kimberly Garcia was handed the keys of her apartment at the Pan American Village, for having won silver at the Lima 2019 Games.

Visibly overwhelmed by emotion, Garcia received the keys of her apartment, which she was awarded for having won a silver medal in women's 20km race walk at the Lima 2019 Pan American Games.

The apartment was delivered by the Legacy Project, which has handed the keys to athletes since July 26 this year.

The delivery took place by virtue of Law No. 30949, which rewards athletes and para-athletes for having won gold, silver, and bronze medals at the 2019 Pan American and Parapan American Games, which were considered as the best Games in the history of the Americas.

As is known, during the Lima 2019 Games, athletes and para-athletes stayed at the Pan American Village, located in Lima's Villa El Salvador district.

After the event came to an end, it was decided that the apartments should be awarded to the medalists as a prize.

However, the delivery was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, since the facilities served to house COVID-19 patients.

It should be pointed out that the Lima 2019 Pan American Games marked the start of Garcia's sporting career as her global success started when she won the silver medal in the 20km race walk.
