Peru has received more than 870,000 foreign tourists so far this year, a figure that suggests a sustained recovery in the tourism sector and that will help create jobs along the entire tourism value chain.

This information was conveyed by Foreign Trade and Tourism Minister Roberto Sanchez on Wednesday during a press conference led by Prime Minister Anibal Torres.

The Cabinet member affirmed that said figure shows a permanent increase in the tourism sector.

"More than 870,000 foreign tourists have arrived in Peru as part of the tourism revival," the government official stated.

"This is an important figure, not only because it helps achieve sustained and permanent recovery in the sector, but because it creates employment opportunities along the entire tourism value chain," he explained.

In the same vein, Sanchez stressed the importance of the northeastern macro regional congress, which will begin on July 21 in Piura region and will include the participation of regions of Amazonas, Cajamarca, Lambayeque, La Libertad, Loreto, Piura, San Martin, and Tumbes.

"The event will bring together all hotel micro-entrepreneurs, tour guides, restaurants, tourist spots, the beach circuit, and all entrepreneurs working in the tourism sector," he noted.

Moreover, the minister underscored that the Executive Branch is awaiting the response of Congress on Bill 2070, as well as eight other bills prepared by his sector, in order to complete the plan and ensure the social viability of the Choquequirao cable car project.
