UK Prime Minister highlights reconstruction agreement signed with Peru

15:08 | London (U.K.), Jun. 22.

The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Boris Johnson on Monday affirmed that the government-to-government agreement signed between the UK and Peru will enable the South American country to have a prosperous and inclusive future because it will lead to repairing the damage caused by nature —in various regions of the country— in 2017.

By means of a recorded and broadcast message during the ceremony, the British high-ranking official saluted the event and recalled that —in 2018— Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra had invited him to witness the progress of the Pan American Games works.

Mr. Johnson added that "today I am delighted to see such cooperation and collaboration on display, once again, in the form of this amazing agreement."

As is known, said weather event was characterized by heavy rains, landslides, and floods, which destroyed infrastructure and crops, leaving many citizens homeless.

In this sense, the Prime Minister stressed that "bringing British expertise, experience, and excellence —together with President Vizcarra's visionary plan— this agreement won't just repair the damage done three and a half years ago, it will also help set Peru, its economy, and people on course for a more resilient, prosperous, and inclusive future."

"The story of our nations is a long one. Today, we start to write the next chapter, and I can't wait to see where it takes us," he concluded.
