Peru must consolidate its position —as a country of creativity and millenary culture— on the international fashion and handicraft market, Foreign Trade and Tourism Minister Rogers Valencia underlined.

“We must continue with this effort, as it is the path that will lead us to position ourselves as a country of creativity,” the cabinet member pointed out.

Remarks were made at the opening of Peru Moda & Peru Moda Deco 2018.

According to Valencia, this mega fashion event is expected to generate US$108 million in deals with foreign buyers from various parts of the world.

Furthermore, the government official noted Peru is a "country of millenary culture" and, therefore, it can capitalize on its culture through designs of fashion and handicraft products.

Valencia also reaffirmed the Inca country is an economy that is fully integrated into the global market.

Thus —as a result of this trade openness policy— positive expectations have arisen within the exports sector, which has gone from shipping minerals to including added-value products.

In this regard, he remarked his portfolio's goal is to welcome 7 million tourists by 2021, as well as exceed US$50 billion in exports by end-2018.

Peru Moda & Peru Moda Deco 2018 takes place at Lima Convention Center and will run thru April 27.
