The Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) has donated the first river ambulance named "Amistad Peru Corea" (Peru-Korea Friendship) to the Regional Government of Loreto, as part of the emergency assistance project for the COVID-19 response in the Peruvian Amazon.

The ceremony was held on Thursday, April 28, in the rainforest city of Iquitos, with the participation of Loreto Region Governor Elisban Ochoa; South Korean Ambassador to Peru Yungjoon Jo; KOICA Peru Deputy Director Lee Saang-Keub;  Peruvian International Cooperation Agency (APCI) representative Jhonny Rengifo; Diresa Loreto Director Chaner Zumaeta; among other Loreto authorities.

The South Korean Ambassador referred to the link between Peru and South Korea since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1963, highlighting the strong trade and friendship ties between both countries.

Additionally, he reiterated the South Korean Embassy's commitment to further contribute to the strengthening of ties between the Republic of Korea and Peru.

During the ceremony, it was recalled that South Korea's contribution to Loreto region has a long history.

In 1995, the Republic of Korea supported the construction and implementation of the San Juan Health Center in Iquitos and, since then, has supported the region through various cooperation mechanisms, such as the dispatch of medical experts.

For his part, Loreto Region Governor Elisban Ochoa mentioned that Koica and the Government of South Korea have significantly supported Loreto to address major difficulties in health and education sectors.

Moreover, he noted that this cooperation teaches an important lesson about the sense of solidarity, love, and commitment to service.
