Citizens aged 32 and over will be vaccinated against COVID-19 at the Seventh Vaccinathon taking place on September 4-5 in Lima Metropolitan Area and Callao region, the Ministry of Health (Minsa) has reported.

Minsa's Immunization Director Gabriela Jimenez has indicated that the immunization age continues to be lowered, adding that the vaccination rate will be higher in September due to the arrival of a greater number of doses from overseas.

In this sense, the official explained that citizens aged 32 and over —who need the first dose— will be vaccinated on this occasion. Meanwhile, those aged 38 and over —who should receive the second dose— will also be immunized.

Likewise, pregnant women at more than 28 weeks of gestation, teenagers aged 12-17 with rare diseases and orphan diseases, cancer, mental and neurodevelopmental disorders, Down syndrome, as well as people who are awaiting or have undergone an organ transplant, will be vaccinated.

Furthermore, Jimenez pointed out that it is necessary to close gaps —especially in provinces— to evenly manage age groups across the country.

29 vaccination centers

In Metropolitan Lima and Callao, 29 vaccination centers opened their doors to citizens today at 7:00 a.m. (local time) until Sunday at 7:00 p.m.

The current Vaccinathon edition also takes place in the following regions: Cusco, Junin, Cajamarca, Lima, Piura, Amazonas, Ica, Tacna, Huanuco, Apurimac, and Moquegua. Meanwhile, the remaining regions will continue with their regular vaccination process.

Goal

For his part, Health Minister Hernando Cevallos announced that the Government has set the goal of vaccinating all those over 30 years of age during the month of September.

On this occasion, the Vaccinathon's objective is to vaccinate 600,000 citizens during the 36-hour-long event.
