The natural events caused by the rainy season and Cyclone Yaku in the country have so far left 84 people dead, nine missing, and more than 47,000 victims, the
National Civil Defense Institute (Indeci) reported on Monday.
At a press conference, the head of Indeci, Carlos Yañez, said that the number of people affected by said events has reached 280,000.
Regarding the report on the impacted houses, Yañez indicated that 6,197 properties were destroyed and 11,807 homes were declared uninhabitable.
About the support to families who have been affected by damage from rains, landslides, and landslips, he said Indeci has delivered 1,822 tons of humanitarian aid through regional governments until Sunday.
In his speech, the head of Indeci remarked that work is being done to address the emergency in the Palo Blanco area (Lambayeque region) to rehabilitate the road and restore transit for various communities that have been cut off.
"At the moment, the Ministry of Transportation is using its machinery to rehabilitate the road, while assessing its damage, so that it can be ready as soon as possible," he pointed out.
The event was led by Ministers Hania Perez de Cuellar (Housing, Construction and Sanitation) and Paola Lazarte (Transportation and Communications), to report on the actions that are being taken in response to rain emergencies across the country.
