Rafael Lopez Aliaga on Sunday afternoon was sworn in as the new Mayor of Peruvian capital Lima for the 2023-2026 period.

The event took place at the Municipal Theater and began at 5:15 p.m. (local time).

It featured top political and diplomatic authorities, as well as representatives of popular organizations, among others.

Attending the ceremony were the President of the Republic Dina Boluarte, Justice-Human Rights Minister Jose Tello, Housing Minister Hania Perez de Cuellar, among other authorities of the Executive Branch.

Likewise, the event included the participation of Congress Chairman Jose Williams.

Renzo Reggiardo —in his capacity as first city councilor— administered the oath of office to the new Mayor of Metropolitan Lima. Then, Lopez Aliaga administered the oath of office to each city councilor.

Lima's new city councilors include Fabiola Morales, Julio Gago, Roxana Rocha, Jose Tisoc, Guillermo Valdivieso, Renzo Reggiardo, Efrain Aguilar, Maria Marcet Yarrow, Deborah Inga, among others.

Lima Mayor's priorities include fighting citizen insecurity, providing water and electricity to low-income sectors, confronting famine and anemia, among other things.

Thus, 39 city councilors, who make up the Metropolitan Council, take up their duties along with Lopez Aliaga.

Lopez Aliaga replaces Miguel Romero Sotelo, who assumed the post of Metropolitan Lima Mayor from May to December 2022, as it was vacant following the recall of Jorge Muñoz Wells.
