PromPeru receives LATA's Destination of the Year Award

09:18 | London (UK), Jun. 19.

Peru's Exports and Tourism Promotion Board (PromPeru) won in the Destination of the Year Category of the LATA Achievement Awards.

The Peruvian organization was recognized for driving tourism to the destination by positioning the Inca country as a leader in gastronomy, as well as for its work with the United Kingdom's media to promote the destination to trade, and for attending consumer events in order to reach potential visitors.

Likewise, PromPeru received a special mention due to the marketing and public relations campaign implemented within the framework of the release of Paddington 2 movie.

The jury assessed the national proposal and —according to its members— this was highly praised.

Prior to the global premiere, an early screening of Paddington 2 for representatives of 60 travel agencies and the media was held. The audience included writers of Lonely Planet Traveler, Sunday Times Travel Magazine, Harrods Magazine, and TTG.

A contest took place on the occasion, on which the prize was a trip to Peru.

The winners of the LATA Achievement Awards were selected by a top-tier judging panel composed of key figures from the Latin American travel industry, including Association of Independent Tour Operators (AITO) Chairman Derek Moore, C&M Recruitment Managing Director Barbara Kolosinska, Brand Agents Founder Aneil Bedi, Crees Manu Founder and LATA committee member Quinn Meyer, and LATA General Manager Danny Callaghan.

Peru and the UK

In 2018, the Inca country welcomed 74,124 British tourists, which represented a 7% increase compared to 2017.

Furthermore, PromPeru's Foreign Tourist Profile showed visitors from the UK spend in average US$1,849 during their stay.

Moreover, the study revealed British sightseers spend 15 days in Peru and are highly interested in cultural and adventurous activities, while gastronomy is a complementary motivation to their plans.
