Princess Mako of Japan, the eldest niece of newly crowned
Emperor Naruhito, will next month begin a 12-day visit to Peru and Bolivia to commemorate the
120th anniversary of the arrival of the first Japanese immigrants to these Latin American countries.
The first phase of the 27-year-old's travels will begin with her arrival in Lima on July 9, from where she will travel to Cusco to stay a few days before returning to the capital to depart for Bolivia, the Imperial House said Tuesday.
Princess Mako will arrive in La Paz on July 15 and from there will travel to Santa Cruz de la Sierra where she will remain until July 20, the end of her visit, during which she is expected to participate in several events commemorating the arrival of the Japanese.
Mako will leave Bolivia on July 20 and is scheduled to arrive in Tokyo two days later.
The princess made a similar visit to Brazil in 2018 to mark the 110th anniversary of the arrival of the first Japanese immigrants in this South American country, which has the world's largest Japanese community outside Japan.
On that occasion, in addition to meeting with descendants of the first Japanese who arrived there, she visited monuments, gardens and museums as well.
