Japanese Princess Mako visits Peruvian art exhibition

00:01 | Tokyo (Japan), Apr. 9.

Japanese Princess Mako of Akishino attended the exhibition "Praise of the Shadow" featuring Peruvian artist Fernando de Szyszlo's creation, within the framework of the 120th anniversary of Japanese immigration to Peru.

In this sense, the eldest granddaughter of Emperor Akihito visited the Cervantes Institute in Tokyo for the first time to see the presentation —composed of an unpublished sample of 22 prints— organized by the Peruvian Embassy in Japan

It should be noted Her Imperial Highness is an art connoisseur.

This visit represented the starting point of a year full of celebrations commemorating the 120th anniversary of Japanese immigration to the Inca country

On the occasion, she was joined by Cervantes Institute Director Victor Ugarte, Japanese House of Councilors and Peru-Japan Parliamentary Friendship League member Shigeharu Aoyama, as well as Peruvian Ambassador to Japan Harold Forsyth

"We were one of the first countries in the world that recognized Japan in 1873, and we were the first ones that received Japanese immigrants. Their contribution to Peruvian culture is noteworthy," Forsyth expressed.

Fernando de Szyszlo was one of the precursors of modern art in Latin America. He was born in Lima in 1925 and died in the same city at the age of 92.
