Prime Minister Alberto Otarola highlighted the ties of cooperation and brotherhood that bind the United States and Peru —a joint work that will allow a safer, more prosperous and egalitarian region for the benefit of their populations.

At this event, the high-ranking official underscored the solid bilateral relationship based on the promotion of democracy, the rule of law, full respect for human rights, environment protection, as well as the fight against inequality and poverty.

"I am convinced that the joint work by the United States and Peru will enable us to have a more prosperous and egalitarian region. Our bilateral agenda is focused on reducing the economic and social gaps that divide people," he said in his speech.

The government's spokesman added that investing in technology, infrastructure, and security will lead to achieving better living conditions for both populations.

The Cabinet head stressed that the United States and Peru are like-minded partners to address common challenges, such as combating transnational illegal activities, including illicit drug trafficking, organized crime, corruption, and terrorism in all its forms.

"Cooperation is one of the most important axes between both countries; I am witness to the fruitful results we have had in combating international drug trafficking and reducing the coca-growing space, a challenge that President Dina Boluarte's Government is going to assume again, and we are going to reduce the hectares of coca and potential cocaine production through a significant investment by the (Peruvian) State, which will be announced in the coming days," Otarola underlined.

During his speech, he also stressed that the United States is a trading partner of the greatest importance, adding that it is the main destination for Peru's non-traditional exports, which in 2022 grew 14% compared to the previous year, reaching more than US$4 billion.

"Peru is a country with an attractive investment climate, a stable and sound economy, and a favorable legal framework for the establishment of new investments. We reaffirm the decision by President Boluarte to relaunch the confidence in our country and invite investors from all over the world, especially from the United States, so that they can increase their trade relations with Peru," he underscored.

Lastly, the Prime Minister specified that Peru is determined to continue strengthening its ties. Therefore, it was agreed to establish a high-level political dialogue that will contribute to improving the lives of both countries' citizens.
