Peruvian Prime Minister Alberto Otarola has met with the Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS) Luis Almagro, whom he thanked for his support and backing throughout the democratic process in the country.

Moreover, the Cabinet chief highlighted that the Government of Peru reaffirms, at a bilateral and multilateral level, its unwavering commitment to the rule of law, democratic governance, and respect for human rights.

"We are working to get economic growth back on track," he said at the meeting on Wednesday.

For his part, Luis Almagro reiterated the hemispheric institution's full support for stability in the country and expressed satisfaction with the progress made by Peru.

Furthermore, they addressed the main topics on the country's political agenda, as well as different institutional issues.

The meeting also featured Ministers Ana Cecilia Gervasi (Foreign Affairs), Eduardo Arana (Justice and Human Rights), and Leslie Urteaga (Culture).

As is known, the Prime Minister has had an extensive agenda in Washington D.C.

Earlier on Wednesday, he held a meeting with the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) President, Margarette May Macaulay, at which he reiterated Peru's commitment to democratic institutions and the Government's full readiness to continue collaborating with the Inter-American system.

Last Tuesday, Otarola met with the U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs, Brian A. Nichols, with whom he discussed the relaunch of the cooperation to fight drug trafficking and to boost alternative development.
