Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra on Sunday announced that one million coronavirus tests —including molecular and rapid ones— are expected to arrive in the South American nation next week.
According to the Head of State, nearly 800,000 samples are for rapid diagnosis and 350,000 for molecular detection.
He also said that 232,747 samples have been taken so far, including molecular and rapid ones, of which 205,230 tested negative for the infection.
Within this framework, 3,632 citizens are hospitalized, of which 554 are in Intensive Care Units (ICU) with mechanical ventilation.
The top official underscored that Peru has tested 12,700 people per day, more than the average number of tests estimated by the Ministry of Health-Minsa (12,000 tests), in order to have a sufficient basis to evaluate the infection's evolution.
On this occasion, the President was joined by members of the Council of Ministers. The event was held at the Government Palace in Lima.
Sunday marks the forty-second day of mandatory social isolation.
