President Martin Vizcarra on Saturday afternoon reported that the number of citizens infected with coronavirus (COVID-19) in Peru increased to 318 —out of a total of 4,985 samples taken.

As the Head of State explained, the 318 cases are being followed up by the authorities. Most of those patients present mild symptoms and remain in their homes complying with the mandatory isolation measure.

"The most important thing is that all the citizen, who tested positive and are in isolation, must reinforce their care so as not to infect either their family members or neighbors," he expressed.

"Because of his own advanced age and the evolution of the disease, he (the senior patient) lost his life. We express condolences to his family; each death is lamented by all Peruvians," he concluded.

On this occasion, the President was joined by members of the Council of Ministers and other authorities. The event was held at the Government Palace in Lima.

Saturday marks the sixth day of mandatory social isolation decreed by the Government.
