Senior citizen becomes fifth coronavirus death victim in Peru

An 83-year-old man —with a history of family contact that had arrived from Europe— died on Saturday from coronavirus (COVID-19) and became the fifth citizen to have passed away due to this infection in Peru, the Ministry of Health (Minsa) reported.

In a statement, Minsa explained that this person died at 07:20 a.m. (local time).

He was admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) of Cayetano Heredia Regional Hospital-EsSalud in Piura on March 15 for respiratory failure and atypical pneumonia.

"On behalf of all Peruvians, we express our heartfelt condolences to the relatives (of the deceased person) at this moment of pain," it concluded.
