President Vizcarra: Coronavirus cases rise to 1,065 in Peru

President Martin Vizcarra on Tuesday afternoon confirmed that coronavirus (COVID-19) cases have increased to 1,065 in Peru.

Within this framework, the Head of State reported that 14,463 samples were taken, of which 13,398 resulted negative and 1,065 were positive.

In this sense, the top official said the percentage of positive cases accounts for 7% of the total.

According to the dignitary, the rate of people infected —in the national territory— is lower compared to other countries, whose numbers doubled every two or three days.

Of the confirmed cases, 190 patients are hospitalized and 57 in Intensive Care Units (ICU). The death toll stands at 30, the Health Ministry reported.


Remarks were made in a virtual press conference, within the framework of a 
mandatory social isolation imposed to prevent the COVID-19 from further spreading in the South American country.

Initially set to last from March 16 to 30, the measure has been extended thru April 12.

On this occasion, the President was joined by members of the Council of Ministers. The event was held at the Government Palace in Lima.

Tuesday marks the sixteenth day of mandatory social isolation.
