The
President of the Republic Dina Boluarte on Sunday reported that a state of emergency has been declared in 400 districts across the country due to the impact generated by Cyclone Yaku.
"A state of emergency has been declared in 400 districts due to the impact of the passage of Cyclone Yaku in our national territory," she said.
The country's top official stated that since its creation in 2017, the ARCC has built hospitals, schools and other infrastructures affected by river rainfall. However, "a solution to the underlying problem has not been reached."
In this regard, the President of the Republic stressed that the ARCC needs to be reorganized and develop a national perspective.
Similarly, Mrs. Boluarte pointed out that Cyclone Yaku shows us that monetary poverty is the tip of the iceberg, noting the urgent need to address multidimensional poverty.
This means —she said— bringing quality of life to the most vulnerable people in the short term, which involves providing them with water and drainage services, improving roads and sidewalks, as well as schools and connectivity, and offering a better work scenario, among other things.
Otherwise, Peru will only be managing the poverty that has been inherited from previous administrations.
