The
President of the Republic Dina Boluarte Zegarra on Tuesday guaranteed the Government's full respect for freedom of expression and greater transparency during her administration.
"
My government will provide all the necessary information and all the facilities for them to carry out their work, the same will occur with State ministers, there will be transparency and willingness to work with national, regional, and international media," she was quoted as saying to the Board of Directors of the
Peruvian Press Council (CPP).
The Head of State also urged media workers to perform their inspection and investigation work objectively, noting that she will have a closer relationship with the press across the regions.
The meeting took place at the Tupac Amaru Hall of the Government Palace in Lima.
The event featured Peruvian Press Council President Maria Eugenia Mohme, CPP Executive Director Rodrigo Salazar; as well as Manuel Boluarte, Ricardo Cruzado, and Rosana Cueva, representatives of said institution.
At the end of the meeting, Maria Mohme noted that the country's top official was asked to consider the signing of the Declaration of Chapultepec and highlighted the understanding and openness that the dignitary showed to journalistic work.
Afterwards, the Head of State received the members of the National Board of Directors of the Journalists' Association of Peru, as well as Regional Deans of Lima, Callao, Puno, Cusco, and La Libertad.
During the meeting, President Boluarte asked the representatives of journalists to cooperate for the full restoration of social peace in the areas where protests were reported.
"Let us call for calm and an agreement. The protest is a right that we respect, but nothing is gained by attacking airports, blocking highways, and affecting businesses," she stated.
