The President of the Republic Dina Boluarte on Wednesday morning called for peace and unity among all Peruvians, in the face of the call for protests to take place in various parts of the country.

Moreover, the Head of State reiterated that no impunity will be tolerated in the case of people who died during the mobilizations in December last year.

"I want to deliver a message to the entire Peruvian population in the south, who is using the media to report that protest marches will kick off today," she said in statements to RPP Noticias.

"We know, because of the Constitution, that marches are allowed if they are of a peaceful nature. That is why I want to address brothers (and sisters) to tell them about the importance of peace and unity and the commitment that we must all have for the good of our families and the great family that is Peru," the dignitary added.

Likewise, the country's top official noted that the Transition Government is committed to finding out the truth about the deaths that occurred during the protests in December 2022, adding that it has requested a rapid investigation and that responsibilities be determined.

"I assure you that there will be no impunity. We have given all our support to the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) because we asked it to come and visit on their own to see what happened in the country," Mrs. Boluarte remarked.

"We also invited the High-Commissioner of this Commission to come in January. Therefore, we are giving all the facilities," she added.

Orderly transition

On the other hand, the Peruvian President underscored that she took office by a constitutional mandate, because of the responsibility she had towards the country, and that she proposed to lead an orderly and peaceful transition, noting that "it is necessary to have the support and contribution of all compatriots" for that.

"The only way to get ahead is in peace, order, and tranquility; violence generates pain and suffering, and leads to backwardness, poverty, and underdevelopment. No one, particularly myself, wants to see more deaths as a result of the protests," she stated.

In this sense, the Head of State explained that her administration began a dialogue process with all sectors, since she wants to resolve those postponed demands, but putting them out on the table and not through violent acts.
