Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra on Thursday reaffirmed he will not run in the 2021 general elections, and asked for this restriction to be specified in the political reform discussed at Congress.

According to the Head of State, this stance was expressed at the recent meeting with Parliament's political groups

"I have reiterated in yesterday's meeting (…) that I will not participate. I will not be a candidate in the 2021 elections. I have asked them to make it clear and specify in one of the reforms that the current President cannot run, even if he took office when he was Vice-President," the top official told reporters.

Likewise, he indicated his administration wishes to leave a legacy of a stronger democracy and institutions that are more trust-worthy.
