Brazilian president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva arrives in Peru on Thursday night in an official visit aimed at stregthening the strategic partnership between both countries, stated today Peru's minister of Foreign Affairs, José Antonio García Belaunde.
This is the second time President Lula makes an official visit to Peru, which reinforces the high level relations that exist between both nations.
Lula will be accompanied by a group of businessmen who will participate in the "Expo Brazil 2009", to be held in Lima, aiming at promoting bilateral trade and investments, and showcasting Brazilian culture, tourism and gastronomy.
Chancellor Garcia Belaunde highlighted Lula's visit and said his presence reinforces Peru-Brazil strategic partnership aimed at deepening integration, especially in the common border.
He said that the presence of Brazilian businessmen will also help to generate investment opportunities in hydrocarbons and power generation projects.
Lula da Silva and his Peruvian peer Alan Garcia will be signing the creation of an integrated zone in the Amazon.
The integration will be completed with the inclusion of a highway that will connect both regions, of which only 80 kilometres are missing on the Peruvian side, and will definitively open the Pacific basin for Brazil.
