The President of the Republic Pedro Castillo on Friday asserted that oxygen will be a right, adding that it must not be possible for some people to continue trafficking with the country's health.

While inaugurating the "Respira Loayza" (Breathe Loayza) medical oxygen plant at Lima-based Arzobispo Loayza National Hospital, the Head of State affirmed that his administration will work without distraction to save lives and preserve all citizens' health.

"Today, we are going to break the monopoly on oxygen. The latter will become a right. It must not be possible for some people to continue trafficking with the health of the Peruvian people (…)," Mr. Castillo expressed.

"I will not get distracted by political issues that come from the past, (…) I am not going to allow the country to continue getting robbed over people's health, education, or food," he added.

In this sense, the top official explained that his administration will continue to visit the country's regions and provide more Peruvians with medical oxygen.

Thus, Mr. Castillo urged citizens to commit to the fight against COVID-19 in the face of a third wave.

“There are incredulous people who think that politics will save people's health. Thus, I urge that we put emphasis on this third wave," he pointed out.

The President also called on health experts and politicians, who love this country, to engage in dialogue because it is necessary to understand that —if efforts, human resources, and the economy do not add up— "everything will be in vain."
