Peru's wealth must be used with intelligence and creativity to benefit the population, Prime Minister Cesar Villanueva pointed out Thursday.
"In our country, there are regions hosting plenty of wealth but, contradictorily, housing plenty of
poverty," Villanueva affirmed.
Within this context, he recalled Italian geographer Antonio Raimondi's famous phrase: "Peru is a beggar sitting on a bench of gold."
"It is not possible that there is much wealth underground but
poverty on the surface," the Cabinet chief noted.
"We must be smart and creative enough to leverage this wealth and put it at the service of our peoples," he added.
Remarks were made during his visit to North-Andean Cajamarca region's High-Performance School (COAR).
At this educational institution, Villanueva and several ministers
held meetings with mayors in order to identify their problems and discuss
new projects.
