Prime Minister Guido Bellido on Friday reported that families living in poverty and extreme poverty will receive a grant worth at least S/700 (about US$171) through the Yanapay (Help) Peru initiative.

Within this framework, the high-ranking official explained that Yanapay Peru is an individualized universal economic support to counter the economic situation generated at households by the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to the Cabinet chief, it is the most comprehensive coverage during a pandemic period and —unlike other grants— this economic support will be individualized.

Moreover, the Prime Minister said that Yanapay Peru will be temporary, since the consolidation of the national economy is also sought for the benefit of all citizens.

In this sense, the Cabinet chief stressed that President Pedro Castillo and State ministers are working on this task.

Bellido also mentioned that Yanapay Peru was an assumed commitment and is now being fulfilled.

Remarks were made during a press conference held at the Government Palace in Lima.
