Peru's Prime Minister Guido Bellido on Wednesday announced the approval of an urgency decree authorizing the payment of a S/350 (about US$85) government grant in favor of families that are going through difficult times due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Cabinet chief indicated that additional details on this regulation will be shared on Friday, in the presence of Development and Social Inclusion Minister Dina Boluarte.

"We have approved an urgency decree authorizing this grant for each of our brothers who —due to the pandemic that we are facing right now— are going through difficult times. They are going to receive this grant, which would provide at least S/700 (about US$171) per family," he explained.

In addition, the high-ranking official explained that this subsidy will benefit more than 13.5 million citizens.

"We are going to hold a special conference (on August 20) to provide details about this grant. The important thing is that this one is different, provides greater coverage, and is individual-oriented," he specified.

Moreover, the head of the Ministerial Cabinet noted that the idea is to correct what has been done before with similar subsidy payments.

Remarks were made at a press conference along with Ministers Hernando Cevallos (Health) and Victor Maita (Agrarian Development and Irrigation).
