Peruvian Ambassador presents credentials to New Zealand Governor-General

00:00 | Wellington (New Zealand), Apr. 29.

Peruvian Ambassador Javier Augusto Prado Miranda presented his credential letters to New Zealand Governor-General Dame Patsy Reddy, the Foreign Affairs Ministry has reported.

At the ceremony, Prado expressed the Inca country's intention to continue strengthening friendship ties between both nations.

He also noted Peru's willingness to improve the capacity for dialogue and action around a growing common agenda including topics like trade and investment, cultural exchange and global concerns such as sustainable development, climate change, democracy, as well as promotion and protection of human rights.

In addition, he stressed the two countries' participation in the promotion of instruments and mechanisms such as APEC, the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), and the Pacific Alliance, with the aim of injecting a new momentum into free trade activities in the Pacific region.

He also voiced the concern shared by both nations about the sustainability of resources and ecosystems in the South Pacific region.

For her part, Dame Patsy noted —in a special way— that with the reopening of the Peruvian Embassy in Wellington, there are 50 foreign diplomatic missions resident in and accredited to such capital.

She underscored the importance of the deals between the Pacific Alliance and New Zealand, as well as the CPTPP which, along with the Air Services Agreement signed in November last year, will significantly improve trade and economic ties between the two countries.

Additionally, the New Zealand Government-General said she supports Peru in its attempts to become a member of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).

The ceremony took place at the Government House in Wellington on April 18.
