During this meeting, the
envoy referred to the good bilateral relations with the European country, as well as the political and social situation in Peru.
In turn, the
German Federal President mentioned the
importance of Peru for Germany on issues such as the fight against climate change and the preservation of the Amazonia.
Similarly, he conveyed his best wishes for social well-being and development in Peru.
At the end of this official event,
President Steinmeier expressed the
importance of maintaining loyal and constructive cooperation between both countries with a view to the development of both nations.
Activities
The host country's delegation was chaired by
Peruvian Foreign Affairs Ministry's Director General for Europe, Ambassador Lissette Nalvarte, and
German Federal Foreign Office's
Director for Latin America, Ambassador Annette Walter.
The meeting served to discuss issues on the bilateral and multilateral agenda, such as the fight against climate change and illicit drug trafficking; cooperation for the preservation of oceans; renewable energy; gender equality promotion; development of democracy; among others.
Other topics of international importance were discussed, such as Germany's relationship with the Pacific Alliance, the perspectives of relations between the European Union and Latin America-the Caribbean, in addition to the current challenges to global security.
Germany is one of Peru's main trading partners in Europe and the main source of cooperation for the development of said continent.
It is also one of the main investors in Peru, as well as a promoter of culture and scientific research development.
