The President of the Republic Pedro Castillo on Wednesday assured that he will not cease in making a reality the bill on open admission to universities for young people who complete secondary education.

"For children who are thirsty for knowledge, it is not enough to give them good facilities or trained teachers, but to provide them with the tools and opportunities so that, once they have finished high school, they can rely on open admission to university," Mr. Castillo said.

"That is what we are working on; this is an ambitious project, it is an assignment that the country has given us; and we will not stop until we have secured this space —as the Government— for our children, once they have finished high school," he emphasized.

From Pacaran district in Cañete province, the Head of State affirmed that if previous administrations had opened the doors of universities to young people, they would have become different people.

Apart from this, the Government will guarantee food for students through the State-run Qali Warma Program, which will be improved, in addition to healthcare services.

Qali Warma guarantees food for public school students in Peru during the school year, in accordance with their characteristics and the areas where they reside.

Concerning the health sector, the top official announced that this week the Executive Branch will present a report on the status of this portfolio before and during the COVID-19 pandemic and what is being done now.

Furthermore, Mr. Castillo announced that he will travel to the southern region of Tacna this Saturday.

"As the Government, we have the obligation and responsibility to travel the country, supervise (public) works, and notice the great needs," he said.

In addition, Mr. Castillo expressed his interest and concern about the conditions in which students of the aforementioned educational center study. In fact, he affirmed his commitment to support them so that they can rely on a better infrastructure.

The Government is willing to let education take a different direction, he underlined.
