on Tuesday told Lima Metropolitan Area mayors that his administration has declared war on crime, noting that this is one of the main reasons he called them to the Government Palace this morning.
The event is attended by mayors of the capital's various districts, as well as Metropolitan Lima Mayor Renzo Reggiardo.
After thanking them for their attendance, the Head of State reaffirmed his commitment to the country and the rule of law.
Likewise, he reminded local authorities that the main concern at present is public insecurity.
In this regard, the top official noted that it is necessary to adopt a collective approach based on dialogue in order to develop concrete ideas aimed at addressing this situation.
"The objective is, first, the defense of our country's institutional framework, which is fundamental for any action of any kind. And second, I have already declared war on crime, and I will do so, as I am doing now," Jeri indicated.
The Head of State also said that, beyond any disagreements, the commitment is to the country and not to the person holding the Presidency of the Republic.
"Dialogue must always be the guiding principle, the main compass. That is the policy of this Presidency until July 28, 2026," he added.
The top official indicated that the purpose of this dialogue session is to listen to mayors, based on their daily experience in managing their respective districts so as to take concrete actions.
"Later, in the next hours, when the Cabinet is sworn in, we will have that additional coordination to properly implement what is said and agreed upon today at this dialogue roundtable," he emphasized.
At another point, the President said that one of the issues raised at National Citizen Security Council (Conasec) sessions is that, on many occasions, measures applied during states of emergency ended up being "more of the same."
"Here we must be bold in combating crime; we must be daring and take risks. Besides, in every action where my presence is needed, I will be there—alongside the Armed Forces, the Police, and municipal forces—to regain territorial control of our country," he pointed out.
