The Government is committed to investing more in education and raising students' academic standards,
stated in Chepen province, La Libertad region, on Friday.
"Now we have to invest heavily in education to raise students’ academic standards (…) That is what I am committed to," Balcazar emphasized after recalling that education had been neglected for years.
The Head of State stressed that never before has so much been done as now to support primary, secondary, and university teachers, and to grant them the benefits to which they are rightfully entitled.
The top official noted that education is a key instrument for development.
He added that young people now have the opportunity to improve with the help of the internet and technology.
"With all this technology, we expect better representatives, better lawmakers, and better technicians," Balcazar said.
At another point, the Head of State addressed a possible refund of pension contributions from the Pension Normalization Office (ONP), specifying that there is no law authorizing such a procedure.
"Some want it, others do not. They say it is too early to introduce a provision allowing withdrawals equivalent to one Tax Unit (UIT), while others say up to four UITs, but it is a very large financial issue," Balcazar said.
"However, we do not rule out that, at the appropriate time, we could have a law authorizing us to do so. For the moment, there is no such law," he specified.
The President visited the Carlos Gutierrez Noriega School Complex, where he participated in the delivery of computer equipment for students alongside Education Minister Maria Esther Cuadros.
He studied at that educational institution.
