President Martin Vizcarra on Friday affirmed that all Peruvians must guarantee free and transparent elections, after calling on the political class to act responsibly.

From Huancavelica, the Head of State said it is important that democracy be strengthened on April 11, 2021, the day on which citizens will elect their authorities for the next five-year period starting July 28.

After recalling that he will leave office on that day, the top official underlined the relevance of the population choosing —by casting a responsible vote— the person who will succeed him at the Government Palace.

"I am sure that the responsible political class, which worships and defends democracy, will not allow any pretext to be used for the postponement of elections, (especially) now that we see the intentions and we are understanding why there is so much eagerness to attack the government (...)," he added.

The statesman called for continuing to work based on what is best for the population. "Together, let's work towards that goal," he emphasized.

Within this framework, Mr. Vizcarra underlined that 13 ministers are visiting the country's inland regions today.

As he remarked, connecting with the people is one of his administration's State policies.
