"My duty is to listen and solve problems; that is why we are here, and El Niño phenomenon will be very strong. I welcome that regional and local authorities have been making progress, but it has been very limited because they did not receive support from previous governments," she stated.
The top official stressed that in every region they visit, regional and local authorities are brought together, "regardless of political affiliation," as what matters is protecting human life and ensuring that the rivers are cleaned.
"This is a team effort in which we will bring together authorities, the Irrigation Board, and, of course, our Armed Forces. Only by preparing ourselves can we take precautions ahead of the emergency," she pointed out.
The President also noted that Health Minister Luis Dyer is in Tumbes to oversee the dengue vaccination campaign, as well as to visit hospitals and health centers to learn about their needs.
The Head of State announced that the Defense Ministry had ordered the deployment of a field hospital to the region, with its location to be determined in coordination with the Health Ministry.
Similarly, the top official noted that the Ministries of Development-Social Inclusion and of Production are also in the northern part of Peru to assess preparations for El Niño phenomenon.
"We know there are needs such as water, sewerage, land titling, among others. I ask you not to lose faith; we are here to work, and we have a great team," she added.
