The President of the Republic Pedro Castillo indicated that, on his work agenda with elected mayors and regional governors, he will request a commitment to guarantee dignified treatment and respect for the rights of workers.

During a meeting with members of the General Confederation of Workers of Peru (CGTP) on Friday evening, Mr. Castillo said the Government Palace doors will always be open to receive laborers and address their demands.

"We are holding meetings with the recently-elected authorities, regional governors, and mayors. We will continue receiving them at the meetings we have with the new authorities. On the agenda I will include that the working class, municipal workers, must be treated with dignity and well at work," he expressed.

The Head of State urged government officials to receive people, whenever they arrive at the Government Palace bringing their demands or petitions, because they are workers who have been waiting many years for an opportunity to be listened to.

"They will not only be listened to, but also attended to by the government of the people," he affirmed.

Similarly, the top official said he is pleased with the meetings held by Prime Minister Anibal Torres with labor unions, thus fulfilling a mandate that he has been granted.

Before a group of laborers gathered at the Government Palace Courtyard of Honor, Mr. Castillo affirmed that his commitment is to generate laws for the benefit of workers, adding that these must cease to be government policies and —instead— become State policies, which also protect future generations.

The President reminded attendees that many times municipal workers, who do an honest job to support their families, have been either treated contemptuously or their rights have been ignored when "concessions, tenders, or negotiations behind the people's back" were conducted.

"Many do not like the fact that you come (to the Government Palace); they say that you are the government's hired supporters; nobody has been given anything here (in exchange for presence). The doors will always be open for you to come, speak out, and present your demands. When we travel to the towns and regions, reach out to us, too," he specified.

Mr. Castillo affirmed that their demands will materialize as long as there is a government that listens to them.

"Behind a worker, behind a laborer, there is a family to educate, feed, care for them so that they can be healthy and become professionals," he pointed out.
