Peruvian President Francisco Sagasti on Monday extended greetings to Lima —the capital of Peru— on the occasion of the 486th anniversary of its founding.

In a tweet posted by the Presidency of the Republic, the Head of State called on citizens "to join efforts in order to build a more inclusive and sustainable society and country."

Referring to these challenging times caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, Sagasti noted that this anniversary celebration should serve as "an opportunity to demonstrate our resilience."

This year's celebrations to commemorate the anniversary of the Peruvian capital's founding were restricted to a serenade, which was broadcast via streaming last night and organized by the Municipality of Lima.

Lima was founded on January 18, 1535, by Spanish conquistador Francisco Pizarro, within the context of the conquest of Tahuantinsuyo.
