Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra on Tuesday affirmed that COVID-19-related infection, inpatient, and death rates nationwide have gradually decreased week after week in the last month.
According to reports from the
Ministry of Health (Minsa), the pandemic is stabilizing, pointing toward a downward trend in northern and eastern regions. Besides, the rates have started to drop in central and southern Peru.
"We have to make every effort in the southern highlands: Cusco, Puno, Huancavelica, Ayacucho, Apurimac, where it (the rate) is not going up, but it is not dropping as we wish," the Head of State pointed out.
As he remarked, this allows Peruvians to see "hope and a light at the end of the tunnel." However, he noted that they cannot be overconfident, and encouraged everyone to continue to work hard and together.
"No one can beat us if we stick together," he said, highlighting the joint work carried out by the Ministries of Health, Defense, Interior, the Armed Forces and local governments in response to COVID-19.
Mr. Vizcarra went on to say that once the virus is defeated, the country's economy will improve, new jobs will be created and Peruvians' quality of life will be improved.
Additionally, he emphasized that
the virus of corruption, which is endemic in society, will also be beaten by staying together.
During the event, he was joined by Ministers Jorge Chavez (Defense), Cesar Gentille (Interior), and Pilar Mazzetti (Health), as well as the Head of the Joint Command of the Armed Forces Cesar Astudillo and Villa Maria del Triunfo Mayor Eloy Chavez.
