President Martin Vizcarra on Wednesday announced the approval of an urgency decree to facilitate and ensure the future acquisition of vaccines against the novel coronavirus.

Within this framework, the Head of State said the Government does not neglect medium-term issues such as obtaining those vaccines, adding that this regulation was approved at the Council of Ministers session earlier today.

As he explained, the decree dictates extraordinary measures in economic and financial matters to ensure access, purchase, conservation and distribution of vaccines.

The top official noted that there is coordination with six laboratories from different countries, among the most prestigious ones worldwide, which work on immunization.

Vaccines will be collected from all of them, and the corresponding procedure will be carried out. The statesman mentioned that some laboratories ask for advance payment so that the country can rely on those vaccines as soon as they are available.

"This urgency decree precisely provides the legal framework so that the Ministry of Health can acquire vaccines, and we can be sure that, once the commercialization begins, we will have availability to distribute it throughout Peru," he stressed.
