The
President of the Republic, Keiko Fujimori, stated on Thursday that her Government is considering measures to address the fuel price hike.
Likewise, the Head of State announced that proposals aimed at easing its impact on the population will be presented in the coming days.
"We know that five months ago, due to the war taking place in other parts of the world, fuel prices unfortunately rose. This Government will take action; in the coming days we will present some proposals to help ease this situation," Fujimori said at a press briefing.
Regarding citizen security, the top official announced that she will call representatives of the transportation sector to directly address the insecurity affecting drivers and companies in the sector.
"I will meet with them in the coming days, and we will also take action on the matter," she said.
The top official stated that her administration is strengthening its support for the National Police and Armed Forces, while fostering greater coordination among the institutions involved in the fight against crime.
"What we see today is a police force that is taking action and has greater support. We are coordinating with the institutions to ensure greater coordination, and through strategy and intelligence, we hope to capture these hitmen and extortionists who have caused so much harm to the country" Fujimori expressed.
Asked about Vladimir Cerron's reappearance after remaining a fugitive for nearly three years, the Head of State said the governments in office during that period should answer for the circumstances under which he remained in hiding.
"It would have been good for Mr. Cerrón to face justice openly, which is what I have always done," she expressed.
Desilting works on Tumbes River
President Fujimori made these remarks after overseeing cleaning and desilting works along Tumbes River's right bank.
The works carried out by the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation, through the National Water Authority (ANA), aim to reduce the risk of flooding and protect the population and agricultural areas from the potential effects of El Niño phenomenon.
In this context, the top official explained that the Government is coordinating with regional and local authorities to prioritize the areas requiring intervention.
Similarly, she stated that the necessary resources will be allocated to advance the works.
"Here in Tumbes, there will be 15 critical points. The governor and some mayors have mentioned four that are essential, and these have already been included. A total of S/40 million (about US$11.90 million) will be transferred, and if more funding is required, Minister Elmer Cuba will also provide it," she indicated.
While speaking to residents and local authorities, the Head of State said that during her tour she observed several stalled projects. Likewise, she heard demands concerning infrastructure and basic services.
"We will assess the situation of stalled projects to find effective solutions. Our country has resources, but they have not been used properly, and we have priorities such as water, sewerage, and land titling," Fujimori noted.
The top official referred to deficiencies found at healthcare facilities during her working visit and said her administration will seek to reverse this situation.
President Fujimori urged the public to maintain confidence in the actions being carried out by the Executive Branch.
The Head of State also stated that her administration will continue visiting the regions to identify problems and propose solutions.
"I tell Peruvians to have faith. We have a good team to work, and we will continue finding solutions," she concluded.
