The
President of the Republic, Jose Maria Balcazar, clarified that the Executive Branch allocated all financial resources to hold the 2026 General Elections and lamented that the amount was not used in full.
"We provided all financial resources to the National Elections Board (JNE); I am saddened that not all the funds granted to the board were used; they have only spent one third. At the appropriate time, during the meeting with the National Elections Board (JNE) and the National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE) at the Government Palace, the Economy minister and the Cabinet chief agreed to provide the corresponding funds," Balcazar stated.
"Therefore, they cannot say we delayed the contribution for the elections to be held," he said.
In brief remarks to Exitosa radio station, the Head of State also called on the National Justice Board (JNJ) and the Public Ministry (Prosecutor's Office) to act within their powers to swiftly determine responsibility among officials questioned over their handling of the elections.
"The only thing I ask is that the competent authorities—the National Justice Board (JNJ) and the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office—swiftly determine what responsibility truly falls on the officials who have been questioned, that's it," he said.
Last Saturday, the Head of State traveled to Peru's northern Lambayeque region, where he inaugurated an electrification project benefiting more than 3,000 residents of 25 villages in Olmos district.
"By bringing electricity, we bring hope," he stressed.
