Peru officially joined the Global Ocean Accounts Partnership (GOAP), which promotes stronger ocean basin management and the sustainable use of marine resources, thereby reinforcing the country's commitment to maritime governance and the protection of marine ecosystems.

Peru's accession to the international initiative was promoted by the
General Directorate for Sovereignty, Borders, and Antarctic Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The effort was carried out together with the Multisectoral Commission for State Action in the Maritime Domain (Comaem), headed by the Presidency of the Council of Ministers (PCM) through the Deputy Ministry of Territorial Governance.

"Accession to this partnership represents a major step forward in the development of technical and methodological tools that will help optimize decision-making regarding the national maritime domain through the integration of economic, environmental, and social information linked to the oceans," the PCM highlighted.

Technical cooperation

The entity also noted that, through GOAP, Peru will be able to access international technical cooperation, exchange experiences, and strengthen capacities for the development of ocean accounts in order to measure the value and contribution of oceans to Peru’s sustainable development.

It was indicated that the accession will contribute to achieving the priority objectives of the National Maritime Policy 2019–2030 and the actions promoted by Comaem, especially the preparation of Maritime Gross Domestic Product (GDP), which is one of its strategic goals.

"From the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, we reaffirm our commitment to the sustainable management of marine resources and the strengthening of public policies aimed at the responsible and sustainable use of the national maritime domain," the entity concluded.
