The President of the Republic Pedro Castillo on Tuesday stressed that conflict between Chumbivilcas communities and Las Bambas mining company was resolved through dialogue, not repression.

During the opening ceremony of the 2022 judicial year, the Head of State deemed as remarkable starting the year having resolved a social conflict such as that in Chumbivilcas, inherited for a long time.

"Sometimes, these real events go unnoticed by some sectors, but that is how freedom and democracy are; we do not complain about that," Mr. Castillo expressed.

The top official assured that his Government will continue fighting the pandemic and highlighted having started 2022 with the administration of two COVID-19 vaccine doses to 80% of the target population, achieved an economic growth of 13%, and generated 340,000 formal jobs from July to December 2021.

Likewise, the President said he is convinced that, supported by the efforts and commitment of all, this year progress will be made on the improvement of Peruvians' living conditions —especially of the most vulnerable sectors.

According to the Head of State, the Government's general policy contains measures to overcome the health crisis caused by COVID-19 and grant Peru a clear and defined course.

"Could things have been done better in 2021? Yes. Some say that we are not self-critical, but I am the first to point out that if there are things to correct, we are already doing so. 2022 will be a year of greater effort, work, dialogue, openness, and transparency," Mr. Castillo pointed out.

"We assume a commitment to change to the Peruvian people and we will fulfill it," he added.
