Peru's President confirms resignation of Health Min

The President of the Republic Francisco Sagasti on Saturday morning confirmed that Pilar Mazzetti submitted her resignation to the Ministry of Health the previous day.

In an interview with RPP, the Head of State highlighted the work of the outgoing official.

In fact, the statesman pointed out that Dr. Mazzetti had undertaken an extraordinary effort during her tenure in office.

Nonetheless, the treatment she had received from Congress and some media outlets was unfair, he said.

The top official indicated that Congress summoning the ex-minister —due to the administration of a test vaccine to former President Martin Vizcarra (when the latter was in office) and the way this case had been handled by Parliament— was the last straw and prompted her resignation.

"It has been a continuous mistreatment," he added.

Likewise, Mr. Sagasti underscored the way Dr. Mazzetti had worked at the Health Ministry, stating that she had made a superhuman effort.

"It has been extraordinary to count on her, especially during this phase, in which we have successfully begun the vaccination process," he concluded.
