Peru's President: Best Christmas gifts will be health and life

The President of the Republic Francisco Sagasti on Thursday affirmed that the best gifts —which can be given to loved ones this Christmas— are health and life by respecting the protocols to avoid COVID-19 contagion.

"Think about that; I am sure that in the coming weeks and months —once the pandemic has begun to disappear from Peru and the rest of the world— we will remember the end of 2020, the year in which we gave our loved ones life and health because we respected all protocols," he expressed.

From southern Tacna region, the Head of State thanked the example set by its residents and authorities to lower the number of COVID-19 cases and called for them to remain on that path.

Likewise, the top official said it is possible to beat the pandemic, reduce contagion, and prevent hospital beds from being massively occupied if citizens support the preventive measures.

In this sense, the statesman recommended frequent hand disinfection, wearing face masks, complying with physical distancing rules, avoiding crowds, and using the health services if the first symptoms appear.

Remarks were made during a meeting with the COVID-19 Attention, Prevention, and Control Commission in Tacna.

As is known, President Sagasti arrived in said region to work with authorities on a joint agenda including topics such as the fight against coronavirus, job creation, and economic reactivation.

Asimismo, el jefe del Estado sostendrá una reunión con el gobernador regional de Tacna, Juan Tonconi, y autoridades locales, para trabajar una agenda conjunta en temas como la lucha contra la COVID-19, generación de empleo y reactivación económica en esta región del sur del país.
