Peruvian Prime Minister Alberto Otarola has announced that the President of the Republic, Dina Boluarte, will travel to San Francisco, United States, in November this year to receive the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum's Presidency to be exercised by Peru during 2024.

"We will receive (this Presidency) from the United States at the Leaders' Summit to be held in San Francisco in November of this year. Of course, President Boluarte will personally go to receive this assignment and bring it to Peru in an impeccable organization that Government is committed to undertaking in 2024," Otarola said in his speech at the U.S. Ambassador's residence in Lima on Thursday.

Along these lines, the Cabinet chief highlighted U.S. support for
Peru's accession process to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).

"The excellent U.S.-Peruvian relationship also extends to the multilateral arena, in which we share common positions based on the principles and values that unite us. Thus, I wish to highlight the important support that the United States has provided to Peru's aspiration to join the OECD as a member," he emphasized.

"We reaffirm the decision by President Boluarte to relaunch the confidence in our country and invite investors from all over the world, especially from the United States, so that they can increase their trade relations with Peru," he underscored.

In this sense, Otarola affirmed that Peru has "an attractive investment climate, a stable and sound economy, as well as a favorable legal framework for the establishment of new investments."

Besides, the Cabinet chief stressed Peru's great bilateral relations with the United States. Within this framework, he highlighted economic affairs and the importance of the U.S. for exports, tourism, and investment.

During his speech, Otarola also stressed that the United States is a trading partner of the greatest importance, noting that it is the main destination for Peru's non-traditional exports, which in 2022 grew 14% compared to the previous year, reaching more than US$4 billion.

He added that U.S. investments in Peru exceeded US$7 billion in sectors such as mining, industry, commerce, finance, and manufacturing, which contributed to greater development of our population.

"U.S. direct investment in Peru exceeds US$7 billion and is concentrated in highly relevant sectors with great economic impact, such as mining, industry, commerce, finance, and manufacturing. This investment generates job and development opportunities for our population," he pointed out.

Regarding tourism, Otarola stated that the United States constituted an important source of tourists for Peru in 2022. More than 460,000 travelers from the U.S. arrived in our territory, as well as enjoyed our cultural heritage and great biodiversity.

The Prime Minister concluded his speech by saying he is convinced that the joint work by both countries will lead to a safer, more prosperous and egalitarian region through investments in technology, infrastructure, and security.
