Peru is holding negotiations with various international laboratories to acquire vaccines against the novel coronavirus, with the aim of starting to immunize citizens in the first quarter of 2021, Health Minister Pilar Mazzetti has reported.

According to the high-ranking official, negotiations are advanced with eight laboratories with which officials hold meetings constantly.

However, she said, further details cannot be disclosed due to confidentiality agreements.

"A definitive agreement is already being worked on with Pfizer, which has undergone some modifications at the request of the pharmaceutical company, taking into account its production capacity," Dr. Mazzetti expressed.

In addition, the minister announced that —on December 20— there will be a meeting with Sinopharm representatives for the future purchase of the vaccine once it is registered.
