In order to continue with Phase 3 clinical trials of two inactivated vaccines from China's Sinopharm laboratory in Peru, the Centers for Clinical Studies at San Marcos and Cayetano Heredia Universities call for more volunteers to participate in the process so as to recruit an additional 4,000 participants.

The team —made up of researchers from Cayetano Heredia (UPCH) and San Marcos (UNMSM) Universities— explained that those wishing to participate can register online through the trial website starting Sunday, November 8, at 17:00 p.m.

Those entering the site must click on a link saying, "I want to participate," which will allow access to the registration form and will be automatically deactivated after the first 4,000 volunteers have registered.

In the following days, volunteers will be contacted by phone and shall confirm the validation message sent to their emails.

After verifying volunteers' personal information and confirming their eligibility to participate, the research team will coordinate with them the day and time to reach the Centers for Clinical Studies at the above-mentioned universities.

Researchers from both universities emphatically thanked the trust, acceptance, and enthusiasm shown during the volunteer registration processes for Phase 3 clinical trials of the two inactivated vaccine candidates against COVID-19 developed by Sinopharm.

Moreover, they thanked the more than 8,000 volunteers who have already received any of the vaccine candidates or placebo, fortunately without significant adverse effects.

Furthermore, the researchers appreciated their participation as contribution to the fight against the pandemic, since Peru and science need everyone's support.

They reiterated that the application of these inactivated vaccines does not mean that inoculated volunteers are protected from COVID-19. Therefore, they stressed the need to keep adhering to the corresponding prevention and social distancing measures.
