In a post on X, the government agency said this proves that "Peru is moving decisively forward with regional coordination to combat transnational organized crime."
"The working group of the Santiago Regional Commitment was formally established. In addition to Peru, it comprises the following countries: Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Ecuador, Uruguay, and Paraguay," the Executive Branch institution said.
The Peruvian Foreign Affairs Ministry chairs the national Working Group.
It includes 10 institutions that, together with their counterparts in the other countries, "will join efforts to strengthen regional security through the formulation and implementation of a joint action plan."
The Santiago Regional Commitment was adopted at the level of foreign and interior ministers on May 28, 2026.
It aims to develop a more coordinated, sustained, and effective regional government response to transnational organized crime.
