Peru's rural sector continues its growth momentum. The
reported on Monday that the farming and livestock sector closed this year's first quarter with 1.5% growth compared to the same period in 2025.
This result was driven by the agricultural sector's resilience (1.3%) and the livestock industry's dynamism (1.8%), Midagri noted.
Export and domestic consumption stars
According to Midagri, agricultural production was boosted by key products linked to food security and agro-exports.
It noted that piquillo pepper production rose 64.1% (La Libertad region), blueberry output increased 23.8% (La Libertad, Lambayeque, and Ancash regions), and yellow corn production grew 17.7% (San Martin, Madre de Dios, and Ica regions).
Potato output advanced 12.1% (Huanuco, Cajamarca, and Arequipa regions), while avocado production climbed 10.7% (Lima, Ica, and La Libertad regions). Other crops such as quinoa and cotton expanded by 62.5% and 57.9%, respectively.
This reflects the strengthening diversity of Peru's agricultural production, Midagri highlighted.
Boost in livestock sector
The 1.8% increase in this subsector was mainly driven by higher chicken production (2.1%), thanks to greater supply in Lima and La Libertad; raw cow's milk output (2.2%), with strong performance in Arequipa and Puno; and pork production (3.5%), supported by consumption along the central and northern coast.
Weather and projections
Midagri highlighted that moderate rainfall has helped maintain optimal water levels in reservoirs.
"Although weather conditions are favorable for crop development, authorities are maintaining constant monitoring of El Niño phenomenon to mitigate any risk along the coast," it noted.
